Gel Nails Tutorial

Hey Guys! Today I wanted to give you the details on my gel nails mani that I posted on Instagram and Facebook on Monday. Because Instagram only allows 60 seconds for videos I wasn't able to put every thing in it. First let me just say that I love gel nails. However, I'm not able to wear them like I want because I paint my nails every two to three days. Can you imagine taking off gel polish every two to three days? Your worst nightmare, right? Last week I went to Sally's Beauty Supply and they had a sale on some of their gel nail products, which motivated me to dust off my uv light lamp and put it to use. I have everything listed down below of what I got from my mini nail haul. Also, all of these products were used for this mani. While recoding my tutorial I forgot to record myself painting my nails with "RE-FRESH-MINT" which is the minty green polish that you see in the picture on the right. Also, another step that I did not include is after I applied my gel top coat I used rubbing alcohol to wipe away any access stickiness or residue. For those of you who are not familiar with gel polish or want to know how to apply it yourself I have a video and instructions listed down below. Until Next Time!

RE-FRESH-MINT

RE-FRESH-MINT is a mint green Gel-n-Base in One polish by China Glaze. Which means it does not need a base coat. When applying this polish it was a little thick. I wasn't sure why but my first thought was it could be because of the formula. My guess is that the base coat is mixed in which causes the formula to be a little thicker than regular gel polish. Although, I did use a gel basecoat this time around. I still like the idea of not having to use one if I don't want to.

What's a tire jack?

What's a tire jack? is a black gel polish by OPI. While applying this polish it seemed clear or jelly like at first but after a few strokes it became opaque. You can see the application of this polish in my video tutorial.

Universal Top Coat

Universal Top Coat is by All Season Professional. This is my first time trying this brand. I applied one thick coat. I really liked the quality of this gel top coat. I was pleased with the glossy look that it gave my mani.

Base Seal

Base Seal is by Nail Bliss. This is my first time trying this product. The only gel base that I have used before this one was Sally Hansen and I have to say that I prefer Nail Bliss. Nail Bliss just seems to be a better quality and it doesn't take as long to dry.

Sally Hansen UV Light

I received this gel curing UV lamp from the Sally Hansen Gel Kit that my husband got me for Christmas last year. It's very small and you can only fit one hand in it at a time but it works very well. As you can see there is a button on top that you press to turn it on. It only turns on for 30 seconds at a time. Keep in mind that uv/led lights have a different wattage so dry times may differ depending on the wattage of your uv/led light lamp.

Other products used in the tutorial that was not mentioned above are: nail jewels and French manicure guides by Sally Hansen, Seche Vite base coat, Revlon dry fast top coat, "Black Creme" by Wet n Wild, and "Gold Plated" by Milani. Keep in mind these products were only used after I applied my gel nail polish. Regular nail polish will not dry under a uv/led light lamp.

Steps for DIY Gel Nails

  1. Prep nails by shaping them, remove cuticles, and free nails of any debris
  2. Apply a thin layer of gel base coat
  3. Let it dry under the uv/led lamp for at least 45 seconds
  4. Apply a thin layer of gel polish. Make sure you cover the tip of your nail to prevent if from curling back.
  5. Let it dry under the uv/led lamp for at least 45 seconds
  6. Apply a second coat of gel polish if needed
  7. Let it dry under the uv/led lamp for at least 45 seconds
  8. Apply gel top coat
  9. Let it dry under the uv/led lamp for at least 45 seconds
  10. Wipe nails from any sticky residue

ttluvstutorials

Hey guys! Well, I have finally done it. I have entered the video world! I been wanting to make tutorials for a while now but I just didn't know where to begin. I first started out with making slide shows of my favorite manis. I had fun with doing those until I started getting board. However, the thought of making a nail tutorial was intimidating. Every day, I see so many awesome nail videos and I wonder how people even do it. Eventually, I let all my fears go and decided to try it. You'll be surprised at what you can do with a iPhone. I have to say though, making a nail tutorial can be quite tricky. For instance, you have to fit 10:00 minutes worth of footage into 60 seconds. Oh Yeah! Don't forget you need the right lighting and proper hand placements. But, I'm pretty sure as time goes on I will get better. In the future I hope to post longer videos here on my blog. But for now, I have a tutorial for my pink cloud mani. If you didn't  know by now, pink is my favorite color. So I thought to myself why not make my clouds pink. See, that's the thing about art. You do what you want and there are no rules. You can go as far as your imagination takes you. Pink skies makes me think of a mystical/fairytale kind of place that is in a land far away. Away from drama, stress, and all the other things that bother you. So next time you need a place to escape just come to my blog and look at these pretty pink clouds. Oh, and it's free of charge. Until next time!
